About Microtest 6380 LCR Meter

The Microtest 6380 LCR Meter extends the measurement frequency range to 10 MHz while maintaining 0.05% basic accuracy, addressing applications where component behavior at higher frequencies is critical — RF inductor characterization, high-frequency capacitor evaluation, EMI filter impedance profiling, and ferrite material analysis. The 6380 shares the same measurement parameter set, bin sorting capability, and production automation features as the 6370, with the extended frequency range enabling characterization of components operating in MHz-frequency power converters, RF circuits, and high-speed digital systems.

Extended Frequency Applications

ApplicationFrequency RangeWhy Higher Frequency Matters
RF Inductor Characterization1 - 10 MHzSelf-resonant frequency, parasitic capacitance
High-Frequency Capacitors1 - 10 MHzESR and ESL at operating frequency
EMI Filter Impedance100 kHz - 10 MHzInsertion loss across interference spectrum
Ferrite Material Analysis100 kHz - 10 MHzPermeability vs. frequency, core loss
High-Speed Decoupling1 - 10 MHzImpedance at switching frequency harmonics
Transformer Parasitics100 kHz - 10 MHzLeakage inductance, interwinding capacitance

Microtest 6630 series, impedance analysis with DC bias application

The 6380 is the preferred choice for teams characterizing components that operate at or above 5 MHz — where the 6370’s frequency range ends. Power electronics engineers evaluating GaN and SiC converter magnetics, RF designers qualifying inductors for matching networks, and EMC engineers profiling filter components all benefit from impedance data at the actual operating frequency rather than extrapolating from lower-frequency measurements.

GSAS Micro Systems provides guidance on selecting between the 6370 and 6380 based on application frequency requirements, along with fixture design and handler interface configuration for production deployment.
