GSAS Micro Systems and Solid Sands partnership for compiler and library qualification in India

GSAS Micro Systems today announced that it is the India engineering partner for Solid Sands B.V. of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, the company behind the SuperTest and SuperGuard compiler and standard-library qualification suites.

The partnership covers the Solid Sands portfolio in India: SuperTest, the Compiler Test and Validation Suite; SuperGuard, the Library Safety Qualification Suite; the SuperTest Qualification Suite; the Code Generator Trainer; and the Plum Hall conformance validation suites.

Solid Sands was founded in 2014 and develops compiler validation and library test suites for the C and C++ languages, used to qualify development toolchains for safety-critical software. SuperTest has been in continuous development since 1984 and therefore predates the company itself.

Solid Sands describes SuperTest as “the world’s most comprehensive C and C++ compiler test and validation suite”. It runs requirements-based, negative and stress tests against the exact version of the ISO language standard a project targets, covering C90 through C18 and C++03 through C++20.

SuperGuard qualifies the C and C++ standard library. Under IEC 62304, a standard library that a project adopts rather than develops in-house is treated as Software of Unknown Provenance, which a manufacturer must assess and justify. SuperGuard provides full requirements traceability and high structural coverage, including MC/DC, out of the box.

The Code Generator Trainer sits at the earliest stage of the portfolio. It is a bootstrapping pack of nearly one thousand test files split over 25 constructed levels, aimed at bringing up a new compiler code generator, and GSAS supports it for Indian teams working on RISC-V and custom instruction-set targets.

Together SuperTest and SuperGuard address a layer that most verification flows leave unproven. Static analysis and dynamic testing both assume that the compiler faithfully translates correct source into correct object code, and that standard-library functions such as memcpy, printf and the math routines are themselves correct.

The compiler and the standard library are development tools, but their output ends up inside the final executable. The functional-safety standards therefore treat the toolchain as something to be verified rather than assumed.

Within the GSAS portfolio, Solid Sands completes a shift-left verification stack that already carries Perforce Helix QAC for static analysis and Razorcat TESSY for dynamic testing. Compiler and library qualification is the third layer.

The partnership targets ISO 26262 Part 8 tool qualification for automotive software, DO-178C and ED-12C with DO-330 and ED-215 for airborne software, and IEC 62304 for medical-device software. GSAS supplies the tools and the engineering support, not a certification, a DAL credit or regulatory clearance.

The portfolio GSAS supports in India also includes the Plum Hall suites. Plum Hall was founded in 1979 and released its first validation suite in 1986. Solid Sands acquired the Plum Hall test suite portfolio in 2025, announced on 20 November 2025.

In that November 2025 announcement, Marianne Damstra, CEO of Solid Sands, said of the portfolio addition: “We welcome the Plum Hall community of customers and partners to Solid Sands. By adding the renowned and upgraded Plum Hall suites to our product portfolio, we can now deliver broader test coverage and improved qualification capabilities, which are always a must for software developers.”

The suites remain a product of Plum Hall B.V., with commercial inquiries, maintenance and support managed by Solid Sands B.V. Per Plum Hall, they reach C up to C23 and C++ up to C++26.

The two catalogues serve different audiences. The Plum Hall material makes no functional-safety claims, and the suites are positioned as conformance validation for compiler and library implementations rather than as tool-qualification tooling. Compiler qualification for a safety case remains the job of SuperTest, the SuperTest Qualification Suite and SuperGuard.

As the India engineering partner for Solid Sands, GSAS provides SuperTest and SuperGuard licensing with INR invoicing, onboarding and qualification consulting, with procurement supported through GeM, SAP Ariba, Coupa and TReDS. Functional-safety engineers at GSAS in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Mumbai and Delhi NCR help teams qualify a C or C++ compiler against the exact ISO standard version a project targets, justify the standard library, and assemble the tool-confidence evidence a safety assessment requires.
