About LCR-8200A Series

The GW Instek LCR-8200A Series is a high-frequency precision LCR meter that characterises passive components from DC and 10 Hz all the way up to 50 MHz: a span that covers inductors, capacitors, resistors, transformers and piezoelectric devices that lower-bandwidth bench LCR meters cannot reach. With 0.08% basic accuracy, measurements as fast as 2.5 ms, a 7-inch colour display and 17 measurement parameters (four shown simultaneously), it gives R&D, quality and production teams a single instrument for component design, incoming inspection and production sorting.

The family spans two series and ten models. The LCR-8200A series runs to 5, 10, 20, 30 or 50 MHz and adds equivalent-circuit model analysis; the LCR-8200 series runs to 1, 5, 10, 20 or 30 MHz. Both share the same 0.08% accuracy, 25 Ω / 100 Ω selectable output impedance, internal ±12 V DC bias and full set of standard interfaces.

A high-frequency LCR meter: DC and 10 Hz to 50 MHz

Most benchtop LCR meters stop at 1–2 MHz. The LCR-8200A pushes the test frequency to 50 MHz, so engineers can measure impedance where modern components actually operate: RF inductors and chokes, MLCCs and feed-through capacitors at their self-resonant frequency, high-frequency transformers, common-mode chokes, and resonators. Test signal level is adjustable from 10 mV to 2 Vrms (or 100 µA to 20 mArms in constant-current mode), with an internal 0 to ±12 V DC bias for characterising components such as DC-biased inductors and Class-II ceramic capacitors under realistic operating conditions.

All models start from DC and 10 Hz; only the maximum frequency and (for the non-A models) the equivalent-circuit analysis differ. GSAS helps you select the model whose top frequency matches your highest measurement point with margin to spare.

17 measurement parameters, four results at once

Under numerical (MEAS) mode the LCR-8200A displays up to four of seventeen parameters simultaneously: impedance (Z), series/parallel inductance (Ls/Lp) and capacitance (Cs/Cp), AC resistance (Rs/Rp), quality factor (Q), dissipation factor (D), admittance (Y), conductance (G), reactance (X), phase angle (θ), susceptance (B) and DC resistance (Rdc). Each displayed parameter has its own independent comparator (pass/fail) with value, difference or difference-percentage judgement, colour-coded green/red so operators read the result at a glance, even in a noisy production environment. Open / Short / HF Load / Load correction keeps fixture and cable parasitics out of the measurement.

Equivalent-circuit model analysis (LCR-8200A only)

Using an algorithm based on resonance theory, the LCR-8200A automatically fits a measured component to one of seven equivalent-circuit models: four 3-component models and three 4-component models, and generates a simulated curve (Trace A/B) to compare against the measured sweep. You can also enter component values by hand to simulate and compare. The model reports self-resonant frequency (SRF) and quality factor (Qm) simultaneously, making it a powerful tool for understanding the real high-frequency behaviour of inductors, capacitors and resonators rather than a single-frequency number.

Production component sorting: BIN handler and 15-step list measurement

For incoming inspection and production screening, the LCR-8200A provides up to nine BIN positions with EQUAL / SEQUENTIAL / TOLERANCE / RANDOM classification and value, Δ or Δ% limits. Sorting results are output over the Handler interface for direct connection to a PLC or component sorter, so good and reject parts are separated automatically. The 15-step list measurement mode tests multiple frequency, level and DC-bias points per cycle with per-step judgement; in AUTO trigger mode the meter senses DUT contact and starts the next test on its own, removing repeated button presses on the line. Swept graphs (BMP) and values (CSV) can be saved to a USB flash drive for traceability.

Applications

The LCR-8200A’s high-frequency reach, accuracy and sorting features make it well suited to:

  • Passive component characterisation: inductors, capacitors and resistors measured at their true operating frequency, including self-resonant frequency and Q.
  • Transformer, inductor and common-mode choke testing: high-frequency impedance and parasitic behaviour for power and signal magnetics.
  • Piezoelectric and resonator analysis: SRF and Qm extraction via equivalent-circuit modelling.
  • Incoming inspection and production sorting: BIN handler and list measurement for automated pass/fail screening.
  • Material and dielectric analysis: frequency-dependent impedance for R&D and quality labs.

The LCR-8200A supports engineering and manufacturing teams in component manufacturing, power electronics and EV, RF and wireless, and electronics QA where high-frequency impedance accuracy and production throughput both matter.

Common questions about LCR-8200A Series

How much does the GW Instek LCR-8200A cost in India?
The LCR meter price in India for the LCR-8200A depends on the model you choose, the higher the maximum test frequency (5, 10, 20, 30 or 50 MHz), the higher the price, plus the test fixtures and any external DC-bias box. As the authorized GW Instek engineering partner in India, GSAS Micro Systems provides current INR pricing, GST-compliant quotations, fixture recommendations and demonstrations. Request a quote with your frequency range and component type for an accurate India price.
What is the highest test frequency of the LCR-8200A?
The flagship LCR-8250A measures up to 50 MHz, making it one of the highest-frequency benchtop LCR meters available. The series steps down through 30 MHz (LCR-8230A), 20 MHz (LCR-8220A), 10 MHz (LCR-8210A) and 5 MHz (LCR-8205A), all starting from DC and 10 Hz, so you can match bandwidth to your component test requirement.
What is the difference between the LCR-8200A and LCR-8200 series?
The LCR-8200A series adds equivalent-circuit model analysis (seven 3- and 4-component models) and includes the 50 MHz LCR-8250A. The non-A LCR-8200 series tops out at 30 MHz and omits the equivalent-circuit analysis. For models of the same frequency (for example LCR-8230A vs LCR-8230), the equivalent-circuit model analysis is the only difference.
Can the LCR-8200A test components at multiple frequencies and bias points automatically?
Yes. The 15-step list measurement mode tests up to 15 independent frequency, voltage, current and DC-bias points per cycle with per-step pass/fail judgement, and the two-curve sweep mode plots two parameters versus frequency, voltage or current (linear or log) to reveal self-resonant frequency, Q-factor and parasitic behaviour. With AUTO trigger the meter detects DUT contact and starts the test automatically, ideal for repeatable production screening.
Which test fixtures does the LCR-8200A need for SMD or through-hole components?
The LCR-8200A ships with the LCR-06B four-wire Kelvin clip lead. For surface-mount parts, the LCR-15A SMD/chip fixture or the LCR-08 chip tweezers are used; for axial and radial leaded components, the LCR-05A fixture; and the LCR-DB1 external DC-bias box extends bias range. GSAS Micro Systems advises on the right fixture for your component and frequency so measurements stay accurate and repeatable.
