About emCrypt

emCrypt

SEGGER emCrypt is a comprehensive cryptographic library designed for embedded systems that serves as the cryptographic foundation for SEGGER’s higher-level security products, emSSL, emSSH, and emSecure all build on emCrypt’s primitives. The library covers the full spectrum of modern cryptography: symmetric ciphers (AES, DES, 3DES, ARIA, SEED, Camellia, Blowfish, Twofish, IDEA), hash functions (MD5, RIPEMD-160, SHA-1, SHA-2, SHA-3, SM3), MAC algorithms (HMAC, CMAC, GMAC, KMAC), digital signatures (ECDSA, Ed25519, Ed448, RSA-PSS, RSA-PKCS1, DSA), key agreement (ECDH, X25519, X448, DH), and key derivation (HKDF, PBKDF2, X9.63 KDF). All implementations follow a decoupled architecture, link only the algorithms your application uses.

Hardware Acceleration and Quality

emCrypt supports hardware cryptographic accelerators on popular MCU families, including NXP Kinetis CAU, STM32 CRYP, Silicon Labs EFM32 CRYPTO, and NXP LPC18S/43S, transparently offloading cipher and hash operations to dedicated silicon when available. The library is written in ANSI C, compiler and target independent, and backed by a 2,000-page reference manual covering every API function. SEGGER’s ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certifications apply to the development process. emCrypt is delivered as source code under a royalty-free, one-time-payment licence with no open-source attribution requirements, critical for products shipping into regulated markets where licence chain transparency matters.
