Overview
About GSAS DC Motor Interface
The GSAS DC Motor Interface (IF-DC MOTOR) is a hybrid analog-digital motor control module. Digital-to-analog conversion generates reference signals, PWM is used for speed control, and comparator-based feedback enables motor performance monitoring. The module implements a control system using DAC, op-amps, comparators, a regulator, and PWM circuitry. Students program the trainer’s I/O ports to generate control signals that drive the motor, varying the PWM duty cycle to control speed. The module connects through the standard bus connector and requires external 230V AC power.

Motor control is one of the most engaging and practically relevant experiments in the microprocessor lab, transforming abstract I/O programming into visible, physical output. The IF-DC MOTOR module enables a progression of control experiments: basic on/off control, open-loop PWM speed control with variable duty cycle, DAC-based reference signal generation, and comparator-based feedback monitoring where the processor reads motor performance data. These experiments teach core embedded control concepts, timer programming for PWM generation, digital-to-analog conversion for reference signals, and comparator-based feedback processing, that are directly applicable to industrial motor drives and control systems.

Compatibility
The IF-DC MOTOR module connects to all current GSAS microprocessor trainer kits through the standard expansion bus connector:
- GSAS 85A Microprocessor Trainer
- GSAS 86E Microprocessor Trainer
- GSAS 51E Microcontroller Trainer
The module requires an external 230V AC power supply for motor operation.
Why GSAS
GSAS manufactures the DC Motor Interface in Bangalore as part of its motor and control peripheral module range. The complete kit, motor, analog-digital control circuitry, and interface card, ensures every lab bench has identical hardware, eliminating the variability that comes from sourcing components separately. The module is built for repeated lab use with durable connectors. The GSAS education products team provides lab manual content for DC motor control experiments aligned with Indian university embedded systems and control systems curricula.
Products are available for immediate purchase through the GSAS online store (“Buy on Store”) or through direct engagement for institutional and volume orders (“Request Volume Pricing”).
