Overview
About Microtest 4-Wire Cable Harness Tester
The Microtest 4-Wire Cable Harness Tester verifies continuity, insulation resistance, hipot withstand voltage, and wiring correctness for complex cable assemblies with hundreds of conductors. The 4-wire (Kelvin) measurement technique eliminates lead and contact resistance from the measurement, delivering accurate low-resistance readings essential for detecting marginal crimps, cold solder joints, and high-resistance connections that 2-wire methods miss.
Test Capabilities
| Test | Description |
|---|---|
| Continuity | 4-wire Kelvin measurement, milliohm resolution |
| Insulation Resistance | Megohm-range IR between conductors and to shield |
| Hipot Withstand | AC/DC withstand voltage testing per IEC/UL standards |
| Wiring Correctness | Net list verification against reference harness |
| Diode Detection | Forward/reverse voltage polarity verification |
| Resistance Measurement | Precision resistance across full conductor paths |
| Pass/Fail Sorting | Programmable limits with automatic disposition |
| SPC Logging | Statistical process control data for trend analysis |

Multi-point configurations with programmable test sequences and barcode-triggered test selection support mixed-model production lines where different harness variants run on the same test station. Automotive harness manufacturers, aerospace wire assembly shops, and industrial cable producers use the 4-wire tester to ensure every harness leaving the production line meets electrical specifications before reaching the customer.
