About CTE: Classification Tree Editor

CTE Classification Tree Editor, systematic test case design

The CTE (Classification Tree Editor) is Razorcat’s graphical test case design tool. It implements the Classification Tree Method to transform requirements and specifications into systematic, error-sensitive test case specifications with minimal redundancy.

How CTE Works

CTE provides a graphical notation where you decompose test inputs into classifications (parameter categories) and classes (specific values). The tree structure makes complex test spaces visible and manageable. Combinatorial rules then generate test cases that cover the relevant input combinations without exhaustive enumeration.

The resulting test specifications export directly to TESSY for automated execution, or to other test tools via standard formats.

When to Use CTE

  • Systematic test design: Replace ad-hoc test case selection with a structured method
  • Safety-critical projects: ISO 26262 and DO-178C assessors expect systematic test case derivation
  • Complex input spaces: When the number of input combinations is too large for exhaustive testing
  • Requirements traceability: Link test cases back to requirements through the tree structure
