IoT Toolkit

SEGGER IoT Toolkit is a modular connectivity library that provides embedded systems with the building blocks needed to communicate with modern cloud services, REST APIs, and web-based IoT platforms. The toolkit includes an HTTP client for executing requests against standard web pages and IoT resource endpoints, plus a memory-efficient JSON parser for handling the structured data formats that underpin virtually all contemporary IoT protocols. Together, these modules allow an embedded device to authenticate with a cloud service, POST telemetry data, retrieve configuration, and parse responses, all within the tight memory constraints of a microcontroller.

Modular, Memory-Efficient Architecture

Each module in the IoT Toolkit is designed with a small, embedded-optimised API that can be linked independently, teams include only the components their application requires. The HTTP client handles plain and encoded data formats, supporting GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE operations needed for RESTful interaction patterns. The JSON parser provides efficient serialisation and deserialisation without requiring the entire document to reside in memory simultaneously, which is essential when working with payloads from cloud platforms on devices with limited RAM.

The IoT Toolkit integrates with SEGGER emNet for TCP/IP connectivity and emSSL for secure HTTPS communication, forming a complete cloud-connectivity stack. Sample applications are included with the distribution, demonstrating real-world patterns such as authenticated API calls and file transfers. While the primary target is embedded systems, the same libraries compile and run on PC platforms for desktop-side development and testing.
