What is intentional net shorting?

Intentional net shorting is the deliberate connection of two or more separate electrical nets at a specific physical location in a PCB layout, most commonly for star-point grounding or controlled tie-bar connections. In Xpedition Standard, designers can implement this with legacy shorting methods or with the newer Starpoints and Tiebars approaches, each with its own symbol, cell, and layout requirements. Choosing the right method and verifying it correctly is what the session’s demo walks through.
