About Arm Safety Qualification Kit

Arm Safety Qualification Kit

The Arm Safety Qualification Kit is the documentation and evidence package that accompanies Arm’s functional safety tools, the FuSa Compiler and FuSa RTS. It provides the materials that safety assessors and certification bodies require to accept the use of Arm’s compilation tools in safety-critical projects. Per Arm’s published Arm Compiler for Embedded FuSa product page, the Qualification Kit consists of the TUV SUD certificate, a Safety Manual detailing validated use cases and known limitations, a Test Report documenting compiler/runtime verification, a Defect Report listing known anomalies and their mitigations, and a Development Process Report documenting Arm’s qualified development workflow.

Safety certification projects require evidence that every tool in the development chain has been qualified for its role. The Safety Qualification Kit eliminates the need for engineering teams to perform their own tool qualification of the compiler and C library, a process that can take months and requires deep compiler expertise. Instead, the kit provides pre-packaged evidence accepted by certification bodies worldwide, allowing teams to focus on qualifying their application code rather than their tools.

Kit Contents

DocumentPurpose
TUV SUD CertificateIndependent third-party qualification certificate covering FuSa Compiler and FuSa RTS
Safety ManualValidated use cases, compiler options, known limitations, and usage guidelines
Test ReportVerification evidence demonstrating compiler and runtime library correctness against the qualified configuration
Defect ReportKnown anomalies in the qualified release and their mitigations or workarounds
Development Process ReportDocumentation of the qualified development process used to produce the FuSa Compiler and FuSa RTS, required reading for safety assessors evaluating Arm’s tool-qualification claims

Standards Coverage

Per Arm’s published Arm Compiler for Embedded FuSa product page, the Qualification Kit covers four functional-safety standards:

StandardLevelDomain
ISO 26262ASIL DAutomotive
IEC 61508SIL 3Industrial
EN 50716SIL 4Railway (supersedes EN 50128)
IEC 62304Class CMedical devices

DO-178C (aerospace) is not covered by Arm’s qualification of AC6 FuSa today, teams targeting DO-178C must perform their own tool qualification to DO-330, using the AC6 FuSa evidence as supporting input where applicable.

Using the Kit in Your Certification Project

The Safety Qualification Kit is structured to map directly onto the tool qualification requirements of each supported standard. For ISO 26262 projects, the kit addresses Part 8 (Supporting processes, Tool Qualification) with Tool Confidence Level (TCL) and Tool Impact (TI) analysis. For IEC 61508 projects, it maps to Part 3 Clause 7.4.4. The documentation is designed to be presented directly to assessors with minimal adaptation, teams typically need only to add project-specific context such as the compiler version deployed, the build options used, and the target device configuration.

GSAS provides the Safety Qualification Kit alongside FuSa Compiler and FuSa RTS licensing and assists Indian engineering teams with tool qualification workflows, assessor preparation, and integration of the kit’s evidence into their project-level safety case documentation.
