Overview
About Actran
Actran is a finite element and infinite element acoustic simulation solver developed by Free Field Technologies (now Cadence) for noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) analysis, aero-acoustics, and vibro-acoustics. Actran models sound radiation, transmission loss through panels and trim, duct acoustics, and interior cabin noise with coupled structural-acoustic analysis. Unlike general-purpose FEA solvers that treat acoustics as an afterthought, Actran is purpose-built for acoustic simulation with specialized element formulations, infinite element radiation boundaries, and porous material models that capture the physics of sound propagation accurately.
For automotive teams targeting NVH refinement in electric vehicles — where powertrain masking noise is absent and every structural vibration becomes audible — Actran provides the acoustic simulation fidelity that general-purpose solvers lack. Actran couples directly with MSC Nastran structural models for vibro-acoustic analysis, and with Cradle CFD for aero-acoustic source modeling (wind noise, HVAC flow noise). Aerospace teams use Actran for cabin acoustic comfort analysis, jet noise prediction, acoustic liner optimization, and pass-by noise certification. The solver handles both interior (cabin, cockpit) and exterior (pass-by, community noise) acoustic problems.
GSAS supports Indian automotive and aerospace NVH teams with Actran licensing, workflow setup for vibro-acoustic analysis, and integration consulting for Nastran-Actran and CFD-Actran coupled workflows. Available individually or through MSC One tokens.
