About Analog Discovery Pro ADP5490

The Digilent Analog Discovery Pro ADP5490 is a 4-channel, 500 MHz bandwidth mixed signal oscilloscope from Digilent (an Emerson company, formerly NI). As the highest-bandwidth instrument in the ADP 5000 Series, the ADP5490 delivers 2 GS/s per-channel sampling across four BNC-connected analog inputs at 8-bit resolution, combined with a 34-channel logic analyzer at 1 GS/s, a 14-bit arbitrary waveform generator, protocol analysis, and deep buffer memory — all with USB-C and Ethernet connectivity.

The 500 MHz bandwidth and 2 GS/s per-channel sample rate define the ADP5490’s role as the speed leader of the Analog Discovery Pro family. Engineers working with high-speed digital interfaces (LVDS, MIPI, PCIe), RF signal chains, switching power converters with fast edges, and high-speed clock distribution networks benefit from the additional bandwidth headroom over the 350 MHz ADP5470. The ADP5490 captures up to the fifth harmonic of 100 MHz signals, enabling accurate waveform reconstruction and timing characterization.

Maximum Bandwidth for Signal Integrity

At 500 MHz bandwidth, the ADP5490 captures signal integrity phenomena — overshoot, undershoot, ringing, and reflections — that lower-bandwidth instruments filter out. For engineers validating high-speed PCB designs, characterizing transmission line impedance mismatches, or debugging EMI/EMC issues, the ADP5490’s bandwidth reveals the true waveform shape at the point of measurement.

Applications

The ADP5490 serves R&D teams working on high-speed serial interfaces, RF and wireless systems, power converter design, signal integrity validation, and clock characterization. The 34-channel logic analyzer enables simultaneous digital bus monitoring alongside the analog measurements.
