Overview
About Basys 3
The Digilent Basys 3 is a complete, ready-to-use digital circuit development platform built on the Xilinx Artix-7 35T FPGA. It includes 16 slide switches, 16 LEDs, five push buttons, a 4-digit 7-segment display, and a VGA output port — all directly connected to FPGA I/O pins without additional interfacing circuitry. This makes it the standard board for university digital logic and computer architecture courses where students need immediate visual feedback from their designs.
On-board USB-JTAG programming and USB-UART serial communication eliminate the need for external programmers or cables. The board is fully compatible with Xilinx Vivado Design Suite and supports both VHDL and Verilog design entry. Four Pmod connectors provide expansion for Digilent’s ecosystem of peripheral modules, enabling projects beyond the on-board I/O.
