About Cmod A7

The Digilent Cmod A7 packs a Xilinx Artix-7 FPGA into a breadboard-friendly DIP-48 module, bringing FPGA prototyping to the same rapid iteration workflow used with microcontrollers. With 48 FPGA I/O pins on standard 0.1-inch headers, 512 KB SRAM, a 12 MHz clock, and on-board USB-JTAG programming, it drops directly into a solderless breadboard or can be soldered into a custom PCB as a ready-made FPGA subsystem.

Available in 15T and 35T variants, the Cmod A7 is ideal for adding custom digital logic, hardware state machines, or soft-core processors to projects where a full FPGA development board would be overkill. Use cases include custom communication protocol bridges, real-time sensor preprocessing, glue logic replacement, FPGA learning on a budget, and drop-in FPGA modules for mixed-signal prototype boards. Full Vivado and Vitis compatibility ensures access to the complete Xilinx IP ecosystem.

The DIP-48 form factor makes the Cmod A7 uniquely versatile: it can serve as a permanent FPGA subsystem soldered into a production PCB for glue logic replacement, or as a temporary breadboard component for rapid prototyping of custom digital interfaces. Teams frequently use the Cmod A7 for protocol bridging between incompatible buses, custom timing generators, and hardware-in-the-loop test fixtures where microcontroller GPIO speed is insufficient. GSAS Micro Systems provides the Cmod A7 alongside the full Digilent FPGA range, with guidance on variant selection and Pmod accessory integration for rapid prototyping workflows.
