The Code Generator Trainer from Solid Sands is a bootstrapping pack of nearly one thousand test files split over 25 carefully constructed levels, aimed at boot-strapping new compiler development. When a team builds a code generator for a new target processor or a custom instruction set, the hardest part is getting from nothing to a backend that handles real C constructs correctly. The Trainer gives that effort a structured, incremental path.

A Graduated Path to a Working Backend
The 25 levels are ordered so each builds on the last, per Solid Sands: setting up a minimal interface for code-generator testing, then simple integer arithmetic, type conversions, pointer operations, structure addressing modes, register allocation, control flow, calling conventions, character and short handling, long long arithmetic, and variable arguments (varargs). A developer brings up the backend one capability at a time, with a known-good test set proving each step before moving on.
