About MSC CoSim

MSC CoSim is the co-simulation engine from Cadence that enables coupled multi-physics simulations by connecting MSC solvers — Nastran, Marc, Adams, Actran, and scFLOW — in a single synchronized workflow. Rather than running isolated single-physics analyses and manually transferring loads between solvers, CoSim automates the data exchange between solvers at each time step, capturing the bidirectional interaction between structural, thermal, acoustic, and fluid domains. This approach reveals system-level behavior that sequential single-physics simulations miss entirely.

CoSim supports multiple coupling strategies: tightly coupled transient analysis (where solvers exchange data every time step for strong interaction problems like fluid-structure interaction), loosely coupled analysis (where solvers exchange data at larger intervals for weak coupling), and mapping-based transfer (where results from one solver are interpolated onto the mesh of another). The automated interface mapping handles dissimilar meshes between solvers, eliminating the manual mesh-matching work that traditionally makes multi-physics simulation impractical for production workflows. Typical coupling combinations include Nastran-Marc (structural-thermal), Nastran-Actran (vibro-acoustics), Adams-Nastran (flexible body dynamics), and scFLOW-Nastran (fluid-structure interaction).

For Indian engineering teams running multi-physics problems — such as EV battery pack thermal-structural analysis, automotive NVH with acoustic coupling, or aero-thermal loading on aerospace structures — CoSim provides the framework to connect existing MSC solver models without rebuilding them in a monolithic multi-physics tool. GSAS provides CoSim setup assistance and workflow consulting for coupled simulation workflows.
