The Microtest 6350+ DC Bias Current Test System is an integrated solution for characterizing power inductors and magnetic components under high DC bias conditions. Operating across 100 Hz to 500 kHz with bias currents up to 640 A, the 6350+ combines inductance measurement, saturation curve generation, and DCR (DC Resistance) measurement in a single system, eliminating the need for separate instruments and reducing test setup complexity for production environments.

Integrated DCR Measurement

Built-in DCR measurement is a significant differentiator: winding resistance directly affects copper losses and thermal behavior of power inductors, and measuring DCR alongside inductance-vs-current curves in one automated sequence provides a complete characterization dataset. Engineers no longer need to switch between an LCR meter and a separate milliohm meter to obtain the full inductor profile.

Saturation Curve Generation

The 6350+ generates saturation curves that show exactly where an inductor begins to lose inductance under load. The automated sweep mode steps through programmed DC bias current values, measuring inductance at each point. The resulting L-vs-IDC curve reveals the saturation onset, the rate of inductance rolloff, and the inductance remaining at maximum rated current, enabling power supply designers and inductor manufacturers to validate component performance against datasheet specifications.
