About PicoVNA 108

The PicoVNA 108 from Pico Technology is a 2-port USB vector network analyzer covering 300 kHz to 8.5 GHz, delivering full S-parameter measurement (S11, S21, S12, S22) with up to 124 dB dynamic range at 10 Hz and 0.006 dB rms trace noise at 140 kHz bandwidth. The instrument connects to and is controlled over USB, and is powered by an included 12 to 15 V DC mains adaptor (25 W), giving benchtop VNA performance in a compact, portable form factor, without the cost and bench space of a traditional rack-mount network analyzer.

As a true S-parameter analyzer, the PicoVNA 108 resolves the insertion loss, return loss, phase, group delay and impedance of RF components, filters, amplifiers, attenuators, cables, connectors and antennas. With over 5000 dual-port S-parameters per second, it is fast enough for tuning on the bench and for production characterization. The 8.5 GHz upper frequency covers Wi-Fi (2.4 / 5 / 6 GHz), Bluetooth, Zigbee, Sub-GHz IoT, cellular and common RF/microwave design frequencies.

PicoVNA 108 USB vector network analyzer: what it measures

The PicoVNA 108 captures both magnitude and phase across all four S-parameters in a single sweep, so one instrument handles return loss (S11, S22), insertion loss and gain (S21, S12), VSWR, impedance, group delay and time-domain reflectometry. Because measurement is vector, not scalar, it corrects systematic errors after calibration, recovering the 47 dB typical / 40 dB minimum corrected directivity and 46 dB typical / 40 dB minimum corrected source and load match that let it measure well-matched and high-rejection devices accurately. This is the core reason RF engineers choose a USB VNA over a simpler scalar analyzer.

PicoVNA 108 vs PicoVNA 106: choosing the right USB VNA

Both PicoVNA instruments share the same compact design with external DC supply and USB 2.0 control, PicoVNA 5 software and calibration methods. They differ in upper frequency and dynamic range, so the choice comes down to how high in frequency you need to measure and how much rejection you need to resolve.

ModelFrequency rangeDynamic range (at 10 Hz)
PicoVNA 108300 kHz to 8.5 GHzUp to 124 dB
PicoVNA 106300 kHz to 6 GHzUp to 118 dB

The PicoVNA 108 is the right choice when your work extends above 6 GHz or when you need the extra dynamic range to characterize high-rejection filters and low-loss passives. GSAS helps you match the model to your highest measurement frequency with margin to spare.

Calibration and the automated E-Cal option

The PicoVNA 108 supports full 8- and 12-term error correction, SOLT, unknown-thru, TRL and TRM, using mechanical calibration standards, plus an automated E-Cal electronic calibration unit that is available for both the PicoVNA 106 and PicoVNA 108. E-Cal removes repeated manual standard swaps, shortens recalibration time and improves repeatability on the bench and on the line. GSAS advises on the calibration kit and connector standards that match your DUT.

Applications

The PicoVNA 108’s frequency reach, dynamic range and full vector correction make it well suited to:

  • RF filter design and tuning: measuring passband insertion loss, stopband rejection and return loss with the dynamic range to see deep nulls.
  • Antenna matching and characterization: return loss, VSWR and impedance for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, IoT, cellular and sub-GHz antennas.
  • Amplifier and attenuator test: gain (S21), input/output match and reverse isolation across the 8.5 GHz span.
  • Cable, connector and PCB interconnect qualification: insertion loss, return loss and time-domain reflectometry to locate impedance discontinuities.
  • Production and incoming inspection: fast, calibrated S-parameter screening with E-Cal for repeatable recalibration.

The PicoVNA 108 supports engineering and manufacturing teams in RF and wireless, aerospace and defence, IoT and connectivity, and electronics R&D and QA where accurate, traceable S-parameter measurement matters.

Common questions about PicoVNA 108

How much does the picovna-108 cost in India?
The PicoVNA 108 price in India depends on the configuration you choose, the analyzer on its own, or a bundle with calibration standards (SOLT kit or the automated E-Cal unit), precision torque tools, cables and adaptors. As an authorized Pico Technology engineering partner in India, GSAS Micro Systems provides current INR pricing, GST-compliant quotations and demonstrations. Request a quote with your frequency coverage and calibration needs for an accurate India price.
What is the difference between the PicoVNA 108 and the PicoVNA 106?
The PicoVNA 108 covers 300 kHz to 8.5 GHz and delivers up to 124 dB of dynamic range at 10 Hz; the PicoVNA 106 covers 300 kHz to 6 GHz and delivers up to 118 dB of dynamic range. The two USB VNAs share the same form factor, PicoVNA 5 software, calibration methods and external DC supply with USB 2.0 control, the 108 extends both the upper frequency and the dynamic range for more demanding RF and microwave work.
Is the PicoVNA 108 a true vector network analyzer or a scalar analyzer?
It is a full vector network analyzer. The PicoVNA 108 measures all four S-parameters, S11, S21, S12 and S22, capturing both magnitude and phase, so it characterizes return loss, insertion loss, impedance, group delay and time-domain response. That is what separates a VNA / S-parameter analyzer from a scalar network analyzer, which records magnitude only.
What calibration does the PicoVNA 108 use, and is automated calibration available?
The PicoVNA 108 supports 8- and 12-term error correction including SOLT, unknown-thru, TRL and TRM methods using mechanical calibration standards. An automated E-Cal electronic calibration unit is available for both the PicoVNA 106 and PicoVNA 108, removing manual standard swaps and speeding up routine recalibration. GSAS advises on the right calibration kit for your connector type and accuracy target.
Which operating systems does the PicoVNA 5 software run on?
PicoVNA 5 runs on Windows 8, 10 and 11 (64-bit). Pico Technology also provides PicoVNA 5 builds for macOS (Big Sur and later), Linux and Raspberry Pi 4 and 5, and a programming API for LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python and C/C++/C#, so the USB VNA fits both bench use and automated test racks.
Is the PicoVNA 108 USB bus-powered?
The PicoVNA 108 is USB-controlled, it streams data and is operated over USB from a Windows, Linux or macOS PC, but it is powered by an included external 12 to 15 V DC supply (25 W), not by USB bus power. That dedicated supply is what lets a compact, portable instrument hold 124 dB dynamic range and reference-quality stability on the bench or in the field.
How do I buy the PicoVNA 108 in India?
