About Binho Nova Multi-Protocol USB Host Adapter
The Binho Nova is Binho’s first-generation multi-protocol USB host adapter, and it is still the sensible entry point into the Binho ecosystem for teams whose boards are built on classic serial buses. Binho lists its protocol coverage as I2C, SPI, UART and 1-Wire: I2C up to 3.4 MHz (high-speed I2C), SPI up to a 12 MHz max clock speed, and UART up to 1 Mbps, alongside 5x shared GPIO pins. Logic levels are 3.3 V and the instrument is, in Binho’s words, “5 V powered directly from USB, no separate supply needed”, over a USB Type-C connector on a USB 2.0 Full Speed 12 Mbps link.

That combination covers a large share of ordinary bench work: scanning an I2C bus for a temperature sensor or IMU, reading and writing an I2C EEPROM, programming or verifying an SPI NOR flash, watching a UART debug console, and enumerating 1-Wire devices such as DS18B20 temperature sensors. Scripts written against the Nova’s I2C and SPI interfaces carry across to the higher-specification Binho Supernova and Binho Pulsar, so a team that standardises on the Nova for day-to-day debug is not locked out of the rest of the lineup later.
The Nova is not the tool for MIPI I3C work, which is a Supernova capability, and Binho positions it as the first-generation adapter now sitting below the Supernova and Pulsar. It is not, however, retired: Binho states that “While newer models like Supernova and Pulsar offer expanded capabilities, the Nova remains a reliable and cost-effective solution.”
