About I2C/SPI Activity Board

The I2C/SPI Activity Board provides known-good I2C and SPI slave devices on a single PCB, giving engineers a verified reference target for testing host adapters, validating API scripts, and learning I2C/SPI protocols. When you need to confirm that your Aardvark or Promira is communicating correctly before connecting to your actual target hardware, the Activity Board eliminates the variable of an untested slave device.

I2C/SPI Activity Board, known-good slave targets for Aardvark, Promira, and Beagle

Pass-through pins on the board connect between host and target, allowing a Beagle I2C/SPI Protocol Analyzer to tap the bus while an Aardvark or Promira drives it, enabling simultaneous active communication and passive monitoring on the same I2C/SPI bus. This dual-instrument setup is the foundation of the I2C Development Kit workflow and is the recommended configuration for learning embedded serial bus debugging.

Use Cases

  • Host adapter verification: Confirm Aardvark, Cheetah, or Promira operation against known-good I2C/SPI targets before connecting to prototype hardware.
  • API script development: Develop and debug I2C/SPI automation scripts in Python, C, or LabVIEW against predictable slave devices with documented register maps.
  • Training and workshops: Provide each participant with a consistent hardware target for hands-on I2C/SPI protocol workshops.
  • Dual-instrument debugging: Use pass-through pins to connect both a host adapter (Aardvark/Promira) and an analyzer (Beagle) simultaneously for real-time bus monitoring while actively driving transactions.

Example code in C, Visual Basic, Python, and Aardvark XML batch script is provided for immediate out-of-box operation. GSAS Micro Systems includes the Activity Board in I2C/SPI training kits and provides it alongside Aardvark and Beagle purchases for teams across India.
