Overview
About ASR-6000 Series
The GW Instek ASR-6000 Series is a high-performance programmable AC/DC power source family built on third-generation compound-semiconductor silicon carbide (SiC) technology to pack up to 6 kVA into a single 4U chassis. The series spans four stand-alone models, the ASR-6450 (4.5 kVA), ASR-6500 (5 kVA), ASR-6600 (6 kVA) and ASR-6660 (6.6 kVA): and outputs up to 350 Vrms phase / 700 Vrms line AC and ±500 V DC, across AC mode 15–2000 Hz and AC+DC mode 1–2000 Hz, with 1P2W, 1P3W and 3P4W output. It is a single platform that replaces separate AC sources, DC supplies and power meters on the bench.
With 10 output modes (including mains synchronisation SYNC and external voltage-controlled amplifier VCA), AC balanced/unbalanced three-phase and phase-loss emulation, programmable output impedance, sequence and arbitrary-waveform editing, and built-in 100th-order harmonic analysis, the ASR-6000 is engineered for modern high-power test challenges, from server and AI data-centre power modules to UPS, on-board chargers and motor controllers, and scales from a single unit to a rack-parallel system up to 39.6 kVA.

A high-performance programmable AC power source: 4.5 to 6.6 kVA SiC in 4U
The ASR-6000 is a programmable AC power source that sources clean, stable, low-distortion power across a wide voltage and frequency envelope. Phase voltage is settable from 0 to 175 V / 0 to 350 V (sine and square), with line voltage up to 700 Vrms in three-phase mode. Output distortion is held below 0.3% (1–100 Hz), 0.5% (100.1–500 Hz) and 1% (500.1–2000 Hz) (THD+N). The third-generation SiC power stage delivers 4.5 kVA (ASR-6450), 5 kVA (ASR-6500), 6 kVA (ASR-6600) or 6.6 kVA (ASR-6660) from one 4U unit, a high power density that keeps rack space and footprint down in busy test labs. Powerful arbitrary-waveform editing (tens of thousands of points), sequence/simulation output and an adjustable output voltage rise time (three ranges) round out a source built for demanding waveform replication.
A true AC DC power source: AC, DC and AC+DC on one platform
Beyond AC, the ASR-6000 is a genuine AC DC power source. In single-phase DC mode it delivers −250 to +250 V / −500 to +500 V at up to 4.5 kW (ASR-6450), 5 kW (ASR-6500), 6 kW (ASR-6600) or 6.6 kW (ASR-6660), with a floating output whose neutral can be grounded. The AC+DC mode superimposes AC on a DC offset down to 1 Hz. Maximum peak current is up to four times the rated RMS value for inrush and capacitor-input rectifier loads. One instrument therefore covers mains simulation, DC bus emulation and combined AC+DC stress testing, the reason GW Instek calls the ASR-6000 the flagship of its power-source line.
10 output modes: INT, EXT, ADD, SYNC and VCA
The ASR-6000 provides 10 output modes so the same hardware behaves as a fixed source, a tracking amplifier or a mains-synchronised supply:
- AC+DC-INT, AC-INT, DC-INT: internal signal generation for AC, DC and combined AC+DC output.
- AC+DC-EXT, AC-EXT: external-signal amplification, using an external waveform as the reference.
- AC+DC-ADD, AC-ADD: superimpose an external signal onto the internal source.
- AC+DC-SYNC, AC-SYNC: synchronise output frequency and phase to the mains or an external clock.
- AC-VCA: external voltage-controlled internal amplifier output, where an external DC voltage scales the amplitude.
This mode set, together with programmable output impedance and balanced/unbalanced three-phase control, lets the ASR-6000 reproduce a very wide range of real grid and fault conditions.
Three phase AC power source: single- and three-phase output
The ASR-6000 is a flexible three phase AC power source that also covers single-phase work. It outputs in 1P2W (single-phase), 1P3W (split-phase) and 3P4W (three-phase, Y-connection) modes, with balanced and unbalanced three-phase and phase-loss (phase-failure) emulation, plus a multi-channel output function in three-phase mode so several DUTs can be driven together. On the input side the variants differ: the ASR-6450/6600 accept single- and three-phase 200–240 Vac ±10% (Delta or Y connection), while the higher-power ASR-6500/6660 take a three-phase 380 V line input. GSAS helps you match the right model to your facility’s mains.

Stand-alone vs rack: model lineup and parallel expansion to 39.6 kVA
The ASR-6000 family scales from a single 4U unit to a multi-unit rack power station, with the highest output frequency de-rated as power increases. Stand-alone units output the full 2000 Hz; rack/parallel systems combine two, three, four or more units. The ASR-6450/6600 form one rack lineup and the ASR-6500/6660 form another, the suffix is the total kVA (e.g. ASR-6450-09 = 9 kVA, ASR-6660-39.6 = 39.6 kVA).
| Model | Output capacity | Type | Max output frequency |
|---|---|---|---|
| ASR-6450 | 4.5 kVA | Stand-alone | 2000 Hz |

| ASR-6660 | 6.6 kVA | Stand-alone | 2000 Hz |
| ASR-6450-09 | 9 kVA | Rack / parallel | 1000 Hz |
| ASR-6500-10 | 10 kVA | Rack / parallel | 1000 Hz |
| ASR-6600-12 | 12 kVA | Rack / parallel | 1000 Hz |
| ASR-6660-13.2 | 13.2 kVA | Rack / parallel | 1000 Hz |
| ASR-6450-13.5 | 13.5 kVA | Rack / parallel | 1000 Hz |
| ASR-6500-15 | 15 kVA | Rack / parallel | 1000 Hz |
| ASR-6600-18 | 18 kVA | Rack / parallel | 1000 Hz |
| ASR-6660-19.8 | 19.8 kVA | Rack / parallel | 1000 Hz |
| ASR-6660-26.4 | 26.4 kVA | Rack / parallel | 550 Hz |
| ASR-6660-33 | 33 kVA | Rack / parallel | 550 Hz |
| ASR-6660-39.6 | 39.6 kVA | Rack / parallel | 550 Hz |
For rack systems the highest output frequency de-rates to 1000 Hz (10 kVA to 19.8 kVA) and to 550 Hz (26.4 kVA to 39.6 kVA). GSAS helps you select the stand-alone or parallel configuration that matches your power, phase and frequency requirements.
AI server power testing: server, CRPS and data-centre power modules
GW Instek positions the ASR-6000 series squarely at AI server power testing. High-speed AI servers built on 2 CPU + 8 GPU architectures draw enormous current, and to sustain that load they rely on high-efficiency, hot-swappable redundant server power modules such as CRPS. Validating these modules requires emulating the full range of mains behaviour the rack will see, balanced and unbalanced three-phase, phase loss, voltage sags and surges, and frequency variation. The ASR-6000 reproduces these conditions, supports multi-channel output so several modules can be exercised together, and adds dual-channel voltage/current monitoring and 100th-order harmonic analysis to measure exactly how each module responds, making it a complete test solution for next-generation server and data-centre power systems.
Applications
GW Instek lists the ASR-6000 series for the following applications:
- Server / communication power supply: including AI server and data-centre power modules with redundant (CRPS) architectures.
- On-board chargers (OBC): 3.6 kW to 22 kW EV charging power-electronics validation.
- Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, mains-fail, transfer and anomaly testing.
- AC inverters: input simulation and grid-condition emulation for power-conversion equipment.
- AC motor controllers and protection devices: voltage, frequency and phase-loss testing.
- Military, scientific research and education: programmable AC/DC supply for R&D and standards labs.
Its programmable impedance, sequence/arbitrary-waveform engine and balanced/unbalanced three-phase emulation also suit power-electronics R&D, renewable-energy and grid-condition testing, and production validation where one source must cover AC, DC and AC+DC scenarios. The ASR-6000 is part of GW Instek’s 6S high-power test ecosystem, pair it with the PEL-5000G high-power DC electronic load, the AEL-5000 regenerative AC/DC load and the DAQ-9600 data acquisition system for a full power-electronics bench, and explore related programmable supplies on the GW Instek partner page.
