About PEL-5000G Series

The GW Instek PEL-5000G Series is a high power programmable DC electronic load engineered for demanding power-electronics and battery validation. Each single-channel module sinks 4 kW, 5 kW or 6 kW across three voltage families, 150 V, 600 V and 1200 V: and Turbo Mode pushes current and power to 1.5x the rated value for up to a 2-second period, so a 6 kW / 600 A module reaches 9 kW / 900 A for transient and peak-load testing without a permanently oversized load.

A high power DC electronic load: 4 kW to 6 kW per module

The PEL-5000G is a high power DC electronic load built for full-power validation of power supplies, rectifiers, EV battery packs, DC fast chargers and renewable-energy inverters. Each module provides a continuous 4 kW, 5 kW or 6 kW with minimum operating voltages as low as 0.7 V at 400 A on the 150 V models, 10 V on the 600 V models and 15 V on the 1200 V models, letting you load low-voltage, high-current sources realistically. Eight modules of the same voltage family combine in master-slave parallel operation (1 master + 7 slaves) for as much as 48 kW, and you can mix per-module power ratings to match the power profile of the device under test.

Programmable DC load with Turbo Mode, Surge and BMS test modes

As a programmable DC load, the PEL-5000G runs the full set of operating modes, CC, CR, CV, CP, CV + Current Limit, CV + Power Limit, Dynamic and short-circuit: under front-panel or remote control, with a maximum dynamic-mode slew rate of 24 A/µs on the 6 kW models (20 A/µs on 5 kW, 16 A/µs on 4 kW). Turbo Mode delivers 1.5x current and power for up to a 2-second period, supporting the Surge, BMS and Short / OCP / OPP functions, while the Surge Test Mode simulates capacitive inrush (surge current up to 900 A, surge time 10–2000 ms) so you can verify power-supply start-up under worst-case loading. A unique strength for a high power load is CV-mode parallel operation: where most loads restrict paralleling to CC, CR and CP, the PEL-5000G also parallels in CV mode. A dedicated BMS test mode exercises battery-management-board short, over-charge and over-discharge protection, and the programmable SEQ load steps current or power with microsecond-class timing for fast transient profiles.

High power DC load for EV battery, charger and inverter validation

For high-voltage work, the 1200 V models are a standout 1200 V electronic load and high power DC load: they deliver full rated power up to 1000 V and 60% power output at 1200 V: better than the typical 50% derating of comparable loads, which gives EV battery, DC fast-charger and high-voltage inverter teams more usable power at the top of the range. The 600 V and 1200 V models carry a built-in slow-starter (soft-start) circuit that protects both the load and the device under test at power-up and removes manual ramp-up setup. Built-in battery-discharge modes (CC, CP, CV + Current Limit, CV + Power Limit) stop on programmable cut-off by voltage, time, Ah or Wh, and automated OCP and OPP test functions plus 150 sets of parameter storage speed up repeatable production sequences. A large LCD shows 5-digit V / A / W readings simultaneously, with voltage readback accuracy of ±0.025% and current readback of ±0.05% of (reading + range).

GSAS helps you select the voltage family, per-module power and number of paralleled units that match your DUT’s voltage, peak current and total-power requirement with margin to spare.

Applications

The PEL-5000G’s high power, 1200 V reach, Turbo Mode and dedicated battery/BMS modes make it well suited to:

  • EV battery pack and module testing: high-current discharge with cut-off by voltage, time, Ah or Wh, plus BMS protection-board verification, for EV and energy-systems and two-wheeler EV programmes.
  • Server, telecom and industrial PSU validation: full-power and peak-transient loading, hold-up time and surge-inrush behaviour.
  • DC fast charger and on-board charger testing: high-voltage, high-power sinking up to 1200 V with usable power across the range, including automotive electronics lines.
  • Renewable-energy inverter and DC-DC converter validation: dynamic and sequenced loading at module and rack power levels.
  • Production test and protection screening: automated OCP / OPP, short-circuit and BMS test functions with parameter storage for repeatable sequences.

For lower-power bench work, the PEL-3000A Series and PEL-2000A Series programmable DC electronic loads cover up to a few kW per chassis. To complete a battery or charger test bench, the ASR-6500 and PSB-2000 Series bidirectional sources pair naturally with the PEL-5000G for source-and-sink validation. GSAS helps you size the right combination of DC electronic loads and programmable supplies for your power level.

Common questions about PEL-5000G Series

How much does the GW Instek PEL-5000G cost in India?
The PEL-5000G price in India depends on the model you select, the voltage family (150 V, 600 V or 1200 V), the per-module power rating (4 kW, 5 kW or 6 kW) and the number of units you parallel together all affect the price, as do the optional GPIB / RS-232 / USB / LAN interface cards. As the authorized GW Instek engineering partner in India, GSAS Micro Systems provides current INR pricing, GST-compliant quotations, system sizing and demonstrations. Share your test voltage, peak current and total power target and the GSAS team will return an accurate India price.
What is Turbo Mode on the PEL-5000G and how much extra power does it give?
Turbo Mode lets each module sink up to 1.5x its rated current and power for up to a 2-second period, so a 6 kW / 600 A module can pull 9 kW / 900 A for transient and peak-load testing, a 5 kW module reaches 7.5 kW, and a 4 kW module reaches 6 kW. Turbo Mode also supports the Surge, BMS and Short / OCP / OPP test functions, so you can verify peak load transients and power-supply hold-up without buying a permanently oversized load.
Can the 1200 V PEL-5000G models really run at full power up to 1200 V?
The 1200 V models deliver full rated power up to 1000 V and 60% power output at 1200 V, higher than the typical 50% derating of comparable high-voltage electronic loads. This gives EV battery, DC fast-charger and high-voltage inverter teams more usable power at the top of the voltage range. GSAS helps you confirm the operating point you need is inside the power envelope of the model you choose.
How many PEL-5000G units can be paralleled and what total power is possible?
PEL-5000G modules of the same voltage family can be combined in master-slave parallel operation, 1 master plus up to 7 slaves, for as many as 8 units, giving a maximum of 48 kW. You can mix different per-module power ratings within the same voltage family, so a test station can be scaled to the power profile of your highest-power DUT.
What is the difference between the PEL-5000G and a standard programmable DC load?
Beyond high power (4–6 kW per module, up to 48 kW paralleled) and 1200 V capability, the PEL-5000G adds Turbo Mode (1.5x current and power), CV-mode parallel operation, a dedicated Surge Test Mode for capacitive inrush, a BMS test mode for battery-management-board short and over-current testing, automated OCP / OPP test functions, battery-discharge modes with cut-off by voltage, time, Ah or Wh, and a programmable SEQ load with microsecond-class step timing. These make it a validation and production tool for power-electronics and battery teams rather than a basic bench load.
Does the PEL-5000G support CV mode in parallel, and is there a soft-start for high-voltage models?
Yes. Unlike many high power DC electronic loads where parallel operation is limited to CC, CR and CP modes, the PEL-5000G also runs CV mode in master-slave parallel, useful for emulating a voltage-source-like load across a large bank. The 600 V and 1200 V models additionally include a built-in slow-starter (soft-start) circuit that protects the load and the device under test at power-up and saves installation and setup time. GSAS can demonstrate both behaviours on a representative configuration before you order.
