Overview
About PHU Series
The GW Instek PHU Series is an autoranging (multi-range) high power DC power supply that delivers up to 15 kW from a single 3U rack. Built on SiC (silicon carbide) power devices for high power density, the series spans 18 models: three power levels (5 kW / 10 kW / 15 kW) across six rated voltages (80, 200, 500, 750, 1000 and 1500 V), with a maximum output current of 510 A on the PHU 80-510. The multi-range output gives each unit a wide envelope of voltage and current combinations within its power rating, so one PHU can cover test cases that would otherwise need several fixed-range supplies.
PHU is built for high-power test floors: photovoltaic systems, electric vehicles (EVs) and automotive electronics. It combines C.V/C.C priority operation, adjustable voltage and current rise/fall times, internal-resistance and bleeder-control functions, three presets and a standard built-in programmable sequence function with an AWS (Advanced Web Server) for browser-based control, no driver install required, and optional functions such as Solar Array Simulator, Battery Simulation, Datalogger and MPPT and AH/WH Meter metering.

A 15 kW DC power supply: high power density in 3U
The PHU’s SiC (silicon carbide) circuit design generates up to 15 kW of output while staying at just 3U height in a standard 19-inch rack, high power density that frees up valuable rack and floor space on a busy test bay. For larger systems, up to 10 units operate in parallel for as much as 150 kW, with APC (Adaptive Parallel Connection) so a master coordinates the array as a single source. A front-panel display, numeric keypad and rotary knob handle local control, while the standard isolated analog interface and digital buses handle automated test integration. With six rated voltages up to 1500 V, the same series scales from a compact 5 kW bench source to a multi-cabinet 15 kW DC power supply array.
A programmable DC power supply with C.V/C.C priority and full protection
As a programmable DC power supply, the PHU programs and reads back voltage, current and power, with C.V/C.C priority so you choose whether the output favours constant-voltage or constant-current behaviour at the crossover point. Adjustable voltage and current rise and fall times (slew control), an internal-resistance function that lets the source emulate cabling or source impedance, and a bleeder-control function tailor the output to the device under test. A standard built-in programmable sequence function automates multi-step profiles. The protection suite, as published by GW Instek, is OVP (over-voltage), OCP (over-current), OHP (over-temperature), UVL (under-voltage limit), AC Fail and FAN Fail: guarding both the supply and the DUT during long unattended runs. Detailed setting accuracy, regulation and ripple figures vary by model; GSAS provides the model-specific GW Instek datasheet on request.
An autoranging (multi-range) DC power supply built on SiC
The autoranging output is what sets the PHU apart from fixed-rating supplies. Within each model’s rated power, an autoranging (multi-range) DC power supply automatically trades voltage for current, so a single PHU spans a wide test envelope rather than a single voltage/current point. The SiC power stage achieves the high power density that lets a 15 kW output fit in 3U, while Flexible Parallel operation can combine different-capacity models, for example a 15 kW unit and a 10 kW unit to reach 25 kW, for cost-efficient scaling that matches your exact power target.
