About PHU Series

The GW Instek PHU Series is an autoranging (multi-range) high power DC power supply that delivers up to 15 kW from a single 3U rack. Built on SiC (silicon carbide) power devices for high power density, the series spans 18 models: three power levels (5 kW / 10 kW / 15 kW) across six rated voltages (80, 200, 500, 750, 1000 and 1500 V), with a maximum output current of 510 A on the PHU 80-510. The multi-range output gives each unit a wide envelope of voltage and current combinations within its power rating, so one PHU can cover test cases that would otherwise need several fixed-range supplies.

PHU is built for high-power test floors: photovoltaic systems, electric vehicles (EVs) and automotive electronics. It combines C.V/C.C priority operation, adjustable voltage and current rise/fall times, internal-resistance and bleeder-control functions, three presets and a standard built-in programmable sequence function with an AWS (Advanced Web Server) for browser-based control, no driver install required, and optional functions such as Solar Array Simulator, Battery Simulation, Datalogger and MPPT and AH/WH Meter metering.

GW Instek PHU Series autoranging multi-range high power DC source available in India from GSAS Micro Systems

A 15 kW DC power supply: high power density in 3U

The PHU’s SiC (silicon carbide) circuit design generates up to 15 kW of output while staying at just 3U height in a standard 19-inch rack, high power density that frees up valuable rack and floor space on a busy test bay. For larger systems, up to 10 units operate in parallel for as much as 150 kW, with APC (Adaptive Parallel Connection) so a master coordinates the array as a single source. A front-panel display, numeric keypad and rotary knob handle local control, while the standard isolated analog interface and digital buses handle automated test integration. With six rated voltages up to 1500 V, the same series scales from a compact 5 kW bench source to a multi-cabinet 15 kW DC power supply array.

A programmable DC power supply with C.V/C.C priority and full protection

As a programmable DC power supply, the PHU programs and reads back voltage, current and power, with C.V/C.C priority so you choose whether the output favours constant-voltage or constant-current behaviour at the crossover point. Adjustable voltage and current rise and fall times (slew control), an internal-resistance function that lets the source emulate cabling or source impedance, and a bleeder-control function tailor the output to the device under test. A standard built-in programmable sequence function automates multi-step profiles. The protection suite, as published by GW Instek, is OVP (over-voltage), OCP (over-current), OHP (over-temperature), UVL (under-voltage limit), AC Fail and FAN Fail: guarding both the supply and the DUT during long unattended runs. Detailed setting accuracy, regulation and ripple figures vary by model; GSAS provides the model-specific GW Instek datasheet on request.

An autoranging (multi-range) DC power supply built on SiC

The autoranging output is what sets the PHU apart from fixed-rating supplies. Within each model’s rated power, an autoranging (multi-range) DC power supply automatically trades voltage for current, so a single PHU spans a wide test envelope rather than a single voltage/current point. The SiC power stage achieves the high power density that lets a 15 kW output fit in 3U, while Flexible Parallel operation can combine different-capacity models, for example a 15 kW unit and a 10 kW unit to reach 25 kW, for cost-efficient scaling that matches your exact power target.

Applications

The PHU Series’ wide voltage/current range, high power density and protection suite make it well suited to:

  • Photovoltaic (solar) systems: inverter, optimizer and string test using the optional Solar Array Simulator function, where a high voltage DC power supply up to 1500 V matches modern PV string voltages.
  • Electric vehicle and battery test: DC bus, charger, on-board converter and pack emulation, including the optional Battery Simulation function. See GSAS EV & energy systems solutions.
  • Automotive electronics: high-current low-voltage rails and HV rails, with C.V/C.C priority for realistic source behaviour. See GSAS automotive test solutions.

Common questions about PHU Series

How much does the GW Instek PHU Series high power DC power supply cost in India?
The PHU Series price in India depends on the model you select, there are 18 variants across three power levels (5 kW, 10 kW, 15 kW) and six rated voltages (80 V, 200 V, 500 V, 750 V, 1000 V, 1500 V), plus any optional interface (RS-232 & RS-485, GPIB, CAN Bus, DeviceNet or Anybus EtherCAT/Profinet/Modbus) and optional function (Solar Array Simulator, Battery Simulation, Datalogger, MPPT and AH/WH Meter). As the authorized GW Instek engineering partner in India, GSAS Micro Systems provides current INR pricing, GST-compliant quotations, rack and integration guidance and demonstrations. Share your required voltage, current and power and we will quote the right PHU model for your application.
What is the highest voltage and power of this high voltage DC power supply?
Each PHU unit delivers up to 15 kW from a single 3U chassis, with rated output voltages of 80, 200, 500, 750, 1000 or 1500 V, making it a true high voltage DC power supply at the top of the range. The highest-current model is the PHU 80-510 (80 V, 510 A, 15 kW). Because the output is autoranging (multi-range), a single unit covers a wide envelope of voltage and current combinations within its power rating. Up to 10 units can be operated in parallel for as much as 150 kW total.
What makes the PHU different from a standard bench programmable DC power supply?
The PHU is a high power programmable DC power supply, not a bench supply. It uses SiC (silicon carbide) power devices to pack up to 15 kW into a 3U rack, offers true autoranging multi-range output, C.V/C.C priority operation, adjustable voltage and current rise/fall times, internal-resistance and bleeder-control functions, three presets and a standard built-in programmable sequence function. It adds an AWS (Advanced Web Server) for control from a web browser with no driver install, and optional functions such as Solar Array Simulator, Battery Simulation, Datalogger and MPPT and AH/WH Meter, features aimed at photovoltaic, EV and automotive test rather than general bench work.
What is an autoranging (multi-range) DC power supply and why does it matter?
An autoranging DC power supply automatically trades voltage for current within its rated power, so a single unit covers a wide envelope of voltage/current operating points instead of one fixed rating. On the PHU this multi-range output means one 15 kW model can serve test cases that would otherwise need several fixed-range supplies, for example sweeping a solar inverter from high-voltage/low-current to low-voltage/high-current conditions. Fewer assets, faster reconfiguration and broader coverage are the practical benefits on a high-power test floor.
Which interfaces and automation does the PHU Series support?
Standard interfaces are USB, LAN and an isolated analog control interface. Factory options add RS-232 & RS-485, GPIB, CAN Bus or DeviceNet, and the Anybus riser card adds industrial fieldbuses including EtherCAT, CANopen, Modbus and Profinet for line integration. The AWS web server allows browser-based operation, parallel operation supports up to 10 units (up to 150 kW) via APC, and Flexible Parallel lets you combine different-capacity models, for example a 15 kW and a 10 kW unit to reach 25 kW. GSAS Micro Systems helps you specify the right interface for SCADA, PLC or ATE integration in India.
What applications is this 15 kW DC power supply used for?
The PHU Series targets high-power DC test: photovoltaic systems (with optional Solar Array Simulator), electric vehicle and battery testing (with Battery Simulation), automotive electronics, power conversion and inverter test, energy storage, and general high-power R&D and production. Its wide voltage/current range, multi-range autoranging output and protection suite (OVP, OCP, OHP, UVL, AC Fail, FAN Fail) suit demanding test floors that need a single 15 kW DC power supply scalable to 150 kW.
