About PicoScope 2405A
The PicoScope 2405A from Pico Technology is a 4-channel USB oscilloscope that offers 25 MHz bandwidth and 500 MS/s real-time sampling in an ultra-compact, USB-powered form factor. With four independent analog inputs, a built-in function generator and arbitrary waveform generator, a spectrum analyzer and 38+ serial protocol decoders included as standard, it gives embedded and electronics engineers a genuine alternative to a benchtop scope, one that fits in a laptop bag and runs from a single USB cable.

A 4-channel USB oscilloscope: 25 MHz bandwidth, 500 MS/s
The 2405A is the entry point to four-channel measurement in the PicoScope 2000 Series. Four full analog inputs on BNC connectors let you watch a power rail, a clock, a data line and a control output at the same time, the kind of mixed-signal visibility a two-channel scope cannot give you. Maximum real-time sampling is 500 MS/s on a single channel, 250 MS/s on two channels and 125 MS/s with three or four channels active, and equivalent-time sampling (ETS) pushes the effective rate to 5 GS/s on repetitive signals. The 48 kS capture memory is shared between the active channels, and enhanced resolution mode lifts the effective vertical resolution from 8-bit up to 12-bit for low-frequency measurements.

PC-based oscilloscope: the benchtop alternative
A PC-based oscilloscope moves the front panel, display and processing onto your computer. That has two practical benefits on the 2405A. A portable oscilloscope with a built-in AWG and spectrum analyzer
At 130 × 104 × 18.8 mm and under 0.2 kg, the 2405A is a true portable oscilloscope: it fits in a laptop bag alongside its probes and runs from the USB bus, with no external power brick to carry. Despite the size, the instrument is fully featured. A built-in function generator and arbitrary waveform generator output sine, square, triangle, ramp, sinc, Gaussian, half-sine and custom waveforms from 0.03 Hz to 1 MHz on a front-panel BNC, useful for stimulating amplifiers and filters and, combined with the FFT spectrum analyzer, for swept scalar network analysis. The spectrum view plots amplitude against frequency from DC to the scope’s bandwidth, with frequency-domain measurements including THD, THD+N, SNR, SINAD and SFDR for finding noise, crosstalk and distortion.
Where the PicoScope 2405A fits in the 2000 Series
The 2405A is the 4-channel, 25 MHz model in the PicoScope 2000 Series. The higher-bandwidth 4-channel “B” models, the 2406B, 2407B and 2408B, step up to 50, 70 and 100 MHz respectively with 1 GS/s sampling and deeper capture memory. Engineers who need four analog channels but work primarily with signals below 25 MHz, power-supply design, sensor signal conditioning, motor and embedded control, or low-speed serial buses, get the channel count they need without paying for bandwidth they will not use.
