About PicoScope 5000E Series
The PicoScope 5000E Series from Pico Technology is, in Pico’s words, the world’s first four-channel oscilloscope to offer true 16-bit resolution. By pairing a high-performance 16-bit ADC on each of its four channels with a noise floor as low as 22 µV RMS and better than 73 dB SFDR, the 5000E Series resolves low-amplitude signals, power-supply ripple, harmonic distortion and other subtle millivolt-scale transitions, that conventional 8-bit oscilloscopes lose in their own quantization noise. The result is precision where you need it, with the speed to back it up when timing matters.
The series is offered in two families. The standard PicoScope 5000E models deliver 16-bit acquisition with up to 200 MHz bandwidth, 2.5 GS/s sampling and 1 GS of deep capture memory. The PicoScope 5000E+ (Plus) models add a switchable 8-bit mode that increases bandwidth to as much as 500 MHz, lifts the sample rate to 5 GS/s, and doubles the capture memory to 2 GS, combining lab-grade precision and high-speed digitizing in a single compact USB instrument.

16-bit precision and an ultra-low-noise front end
With 16-bit resolution on every channel, the 5000E Series captures 256 times more vertical detail than a standard 8-bit scope. All signal processing, including math channels and filtering, is maintained at a minimum of 16-bit resolution, so zooming in on low-level signals reveals real detail rather than quantization noise or digital artefacts. A meticulously shielded front end with a typical channel-to-channel isolation ratio better than 500:1 keeps crosstalk and harmonic distortion low, and the exceptional bandwidth flatness ((+0.3 dB, −3 dB) from DC to full bandwidth in 16-bit mode) means engineers can trust every measurement from DC to the edge of the band.

All standard 5000E models operate at 16-bit. The 5000E+ Plus models add the switchable 8-bit high-speed mode shown above. MSO variants add 16 digital channels (two logical ports of eight channels each, 2.54 mm pitch connector) with up to 100 MHz digital input frequency.
Deep memory and sustained performance
High sample rates are only useful if they can be sustained. The 5000E+ Plus models pair their 5 GS/s sample rate with a 2 GS capture buffer, so the device can hold its maximum sampling rate for a full 200 ms, long enough to record a complete power-up sequence or hunt down an elusive intermittent timing error without compromising on time resolution. Capture memory can be divided into segments for rapid-trigger acquisition, capturing up to 40,000 waveforms with minimal dead time so rare events are not missed.
Mixed-signal, AWG and built-in analysis tools
Every 5000E model includes an integrated function generator (100 µHz to 20 MHz) and a 14-bit, 200 MS/s arbitrary waveform generator (AWG), plus a spectrum analyzer (DC to full bandwidth) and a separate auxiliary trigger/AWG I/O. The MSO models add 16 digital inputs for simultaneous analog and digital capture, enabling correlation of bus protocol data with physical-layer phenomena such as ringing, crosstalk or supply droop in a single time-aligned view.

All 5000E models ship with PicoScope 7 oscilloscope software for Windows, macOS and Linux at no extra cost, with free updates for the life of the instrument. PicoScope 7 runs natively on Arm64 platforms, including Apple Silicon Macs, Windows on Arm laptops and 64-bit Raspberry Pi, communicating directly with the processor without a translation layer for faster waveform rendering and lower-latency interaction. For automated test, the PicoSDK provides C, Python, MATLAB and LabVIEW interfaces.
