CBT Electronic × GSAS
CBT Electronic (Circuit Board Test) is a European manufacturer headquartered in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, dedicated to a single mission: making circuit board fault detection fast, reliable, and accessible. Founded by engineers with deep expertise in analogue test instrumentation, CBT Electronic created the FADOS brand, a family of VI (Voltage-Current) curve tracers purpose-built for power-off PCB diagnostics. The core idea is elegantly simple: apply a controlled test signal to a component or net on a de-energised board, measure the resulting VI curve, and compare it against a known-good reference. Deviations in the curve signature reveal faults, short circuits, open connections, degraded components, without ever powering the board under test.
What makes FADOS unique is its non-powered testing methodology. Traditional approaches require powering up a faulty board to probe signals, risking further damage and demanding access to schematics that may not be available. FADOS inverts this: by testing at power-off, engineers can safely diagnose faults on any board, regardless of whether schematics exist.
The VI signature comparison method overlays the curve of a suspect board against a known-good reference, instantly highlighting differences. This makes FADOS invaluable for legacy boards, reverse-engineering scenarios, and production environments where speed matters more than deep circuit knowledge.
GSAS has been CBT Electronic's India partner since 2010, and the relationship goes beyond distribution. GSAS operates as an ODM assembler, FADOS units are assembled, tested, and quality-controlled at the GSAS Bangalore facility before shipping to customers across India. With offices in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Visakhapatnam, Vadodara, and Kolkata, a dedicated support channel at fados@gsasindia.com, and application engineers trained on the full FADOS product line, GSAS provides end-to-end sales, training, and service for every FADOS instrument sold in India.

FADOS 9F1: Flagship Circuit Board Tester
The Complete VI Test Station
The FADOS 9F1 is CBT Electronic's flagship circuit board diagnostic instrument. It combines a 12-bit ADC/DAC VI curve tracer, a built-in programmable power supply (0–40 V, 0–2 A), and an infrared thermal sensor in one bench-top unit. Connect two probes to any component on a de-energised PCB, and FADOS generates a VI characteristic curve. Compare that curve against a known-good reference to spot faults instantly.
The built-in power supply supports powered testing when needed. Apply voltage to a board and use the IR sensor to detect thermal hot spots from shorted components. This combines VI analysis with thermal fault localisation in a single workflow. FADOS software stores unlimited board references and generates printable faulty-points reports for traceability.
Application Industries: Electronics manufacturing · PCB repair and rework · Defence and aerospace (legacy board maintenance) · Automotive ECU repair · Medical device depot repair · Telecommunications equipment servicing · Industrial automation and PLC diagnostics.

FADOS XI Advanced: Short Circuit Detection + Frequency Scanning
The Most Capable FADOS, NEW
The FADOS XI Advanced VI Analyzer adds two breakthrough capabilities to the proven FADOS 9F1 platform. A non-contact short circuit detection sensor traces the path of current along a shorted conductor and pinpoints the exact fault location without cutting traces or desoldering components. Step-by-step frequency scanning (50–2500 Hz) builds a 3D visualisation of how VI curves evolve across frequency, revealing degraded capacitors, frequency-dependent faults, and resonance issues invisible to single-frequency VI testing. All standard FADOS 9F1 features, dual-channel VI comparison, equivalent circuit diagram, auto component measurement, IR thermal sensor, power supply, oscilloscope, and fault reporting, are included.
NEW Features (FADOS XI Exclusive):
- Non-contact short circuit detection sensor: directional current tracing to the exact short-circuit point, no trace cutting required. Read the full technical guide to FADOS XI short circuit detection.
- Step-by-step frequency scanning: 3D VI curve visualisation across 50–1250 Hz or 100–2500 Hz, revealing capacitor degradation and frequency-dependent faults. See the FADOS XI frequency scanning and VI curve tracing guide.
FADOS 7F1: Portable Field Tester
VI Testing, Anywhere
The FADOS 7F1 delivers the same VI curve tracing technology in a compact, portable form factor. It uses the same 12-bit ADC/DAC engine and FADOS software as the 9F1 but omits the internal power supply and IR sensor. This keeps the unit lighter and more affordable. A battery option is available for true field portability.
Choose the 7F1 for on-site board diagnosis, depot repair, or training labs where built-in power and thermal sensing are not required. It is fully compatible with the FADOS MUX multiplexer for automated multi-point scanning.
Application: Field service and on-site board repair · Depot-level maintenance centres · Educational and training labs · Cost-effective entry into VI curve testing.
FADOS MUX: 96-Point Multiplexer
Automated Board Scanning
The FADOS MUX is a 96-point multiplexer that connects to a FADOS 9F1 or 7F1. It replaces manual probe-by-probe testing with automated multi-point scanning.
Connect the MUX to a test fixture or bed-of-nails jig and define the scan sequence in FADOS software. The MUX steps through all 96 points automatically, comparing each VI signature against a known-good reference.
The MUX suits production-line testing, incoming PCB inspection, and batch verification where speed and consistency matter. Each scan generates a pass/fail report for quality traceability. Daisy-chain multiple MUX units for boards requiring more than 96 test points.
Application: Production-line board testing · Incoming inspection of populated PCBs · Batch verification and quality assurance · Integration with test fixtures and bed-of-nails jigs.
