New from GW Instek (2026): SPS-A Series Switching DC Power Supplies & GDS-2000HD/HG 12-bit Oscilloscopes: Now in India

GSAS Engineering · · 9 min read

GW Instek has added two new instrument families to its 2026 catalogue, and both are now available to Indian engineering, education and production teams through GSAS Micro Systems. The first is the SPS-A Series: a new-generation switching DC power supply line that upgrades the established SPS Series with an encoder digital knob and a colour LCD. The second is the GDS-2000HD/HG Series, a compact 12-bit oscilloscope built around a newly designed 12-bit ADC and an Android-based smart user experience.

This post sticks to what GW Instek has published officially. Where a number is on the datasheet, we state it; where the datasheet leaves a gap or carries an inconsistency, we say so rather than guess. Sources are listed at the end.

GW Instek SPS-A Series switching DC power supply and GDS-2000HD 12-bit oscilloscope on an Indian engineering bench, new GW Instek products from GSAS Micro Systems

SPS-A Series: a new-generation 360 W switching DC power supply

The SPS-A Series is GW Instek’s new-generation upgrade to its established SPS family of single-channel switching-mode DC power supplies. The headline change versus the older SPS Series is the user interface: where the previous generation used rotary coarse/fine knobs and LED meters, the SPS-A introduces an encoder-switch digital control knob paired with a 2.4-inch TFT colour LCD, giving faster, more precise voltage and current setting with clear on-screen feedback.

All five models share the same 360 W total output power in a single channel, a deliberately constant-power lineup, where each model trades voltage for current around the same power envelope.

SPS-A Series model lineup

The model number encodes the rating: the first digits are the rated voltage, the remaining digits the rated current.

ModelRated VoltageRated CurrentTotal Power
SPS-1230A0 – 12 V0 – 30 A360 W
SPS-1820A0 – 18 V0 – 20 A360 W
SPS-2415A0 – 24 V0 – 15 A360 W
SPS-3610A0 – 36 V0 – 10 A360 W
SPS-606A0 – 60 V0 – 6 A360 W

The five models span 12 V/30 A at the high-current end to 60 V/6 A at the high-voltage end, so a lab can pick the curve that matches its DUT, high current for low-voltage logic and battery work, higher voltage for component and 3C-product testing, without paying for headroom it will not use.

SPS-A: verified specifications (all models)

  • Total output power: 360 W, single channel
  • CV operation: Line regulation ≤ 5 mV; Load regulation ≤ 5 mV; Ripple & Noise (5 Hz – 1 MHz) ≤ 5 mV; Recovery time < 150 ms for a 10% rated-load change; Temperature coefficient < 100 ppm/°C
  • CC operation: Line regulation ≤ 3 mA; Load regulation ≤ 3 mA; Ripple & Noise ≤ 30 mArms (SPS-1230A), ≤ 10 mArms (SPS-1820A / SPS-2415A), ≤ 5 mArms (SPS-3610A / SPS-606A)
  • Resolution: Setting 10 mV / 10 mA; Readback 1 mV / 1 mA (per the datasheet specification table, see note below)

  • Protection: Built-in OVP, OCP and OTP; OVP range 5% – 105% of rated output voltage, accuracy ±(1% of setting + 0.5 V); OCP accuracy ±(1% of setting + 0.3 A), 0.1 A resolution
  • Memory: Three preset store/recall settings plus one power-on default
  • Front panel: Output On/Off key and panel lock, suited to production lines and long-term operation
  • Control I/O: Status signal outputs (Output ON/OFF, CV, CC, ALM, PWR ON)
  • Display / interface: 2.4-inch TFT LCD; Remote I/O
  • AC input: 115 V / 230 V ±15%, 50/60 Hz; power consumption 900 VA
  • Dimensions / weight: 290 (W) × 124 (H) × 363 (D) mm; approx. 3.6 kg
  • Environment: Indoor use, altitude ≤ 2000 m, 0 °C – 40 °C, humidity ≤ 80%, installation category II, pollution degree 2

Important, this is a non-programmable bench/production supply. GW Instek’s published interface for the SPS-A is Remote I/O with status signal outputs only. The datasheet does not state a USB, RS-232 or LAN remote-programming interface, so the SPS-A should not be presented as PC/SCPI-programmable. For a programmable bench supply, see the GW Instek programmable DC power lines on the GW Instek partner page.

Notes and items we are verifying before publishing product specs

In the interest of accuracy, two small inconsistencies exist in GW Instek’s own published material, and we are confirming them with the manufacturer:

  1. Readback resolution. The datasheet specification table lists readback as 1 mV / 1 mA, while the datasheet marketing blurb and the news release say “10 mV / 1 mA.” We have used the spec-table value above and flag this for confirmation.
  2. Rack-mount kit part number. The features list and news release reference GRA-441-J/E while the datasheet body text references GRA-449-J/E. We will confirm the correct kit P/N before quoting a rack configuration.

Where the SPS-A fits

GW Instek positions the SPS-A for scientific research and experimental testing, battery charge-discharge testing, electronic component measurement, and 3C electronic product test. The constant-power, single-channel design and front-panel lock make it a natural fit for repeatable production-line use as well as the bench.

GDS-2000HD / GDS-2000HG: a compact 12-bit oscilloscope with an Android smart UX

The GDS-2000HD/HG is a 4-channel digital storage oscilloscope built around a newly designed 12-bit ADC that delivers 4096 levels of vertical quantization: sixteen times the vertical detail of a conventional 8-bit scope (4096 vs 256 levels), for better dynamic range and waveform clarity. It comes in two variants, HD and HG, across three bandwidths.

Do not confuse this series with the older 8-bit GDS-2000A/E or the plain GDS-2000. Those are separate, earlier families with different displays and sample rates. The HD/HG is a new 12-bit series.

  • Interfaces: High-speed Ethernet/LAN and USB are standard (USB cable is a standard accessory); GPIB is available (GPIB cable is an optional accessory)

HG variant: built-in 50 MHz AFG + Bode/FRA

The HG models add a built-in 50 MHz Arbitrary Function/Waveform Generator with 28 standard waveforms (engineering, mathematical, medical and trigonometric) and a one-key copy function that replicates a captured real-world anomaly straight into the generator. HG models also add Frequency Response Analysis (FRA), producing intuitive Bode plots for power-supply and filter stability and phase-margin verification. The HD models do not include the AFG or FRA features, so if your work involves stimulating a DUT or verifying loop stability, the HG is the variant to specify.

What GW Instek has not published yet

To keep this factual, the following are not stated on the current GW Instek product page or datasheet, and we will not invent them. Confirm on the live spec tab or full datasheet before relying on them:

  • The exact display size, type and pixel resolution (the brochure does not state it)
  • The full port-by-port I/O table (USB host vs device counts, HDMI presence, Go/NoGo), USB and Ethernet/LAN are confirmed and GPIB is implied via the optional cable, but HDMI is not confirmed
  • The AFG sample rate, vertical resolution and output amplitude for HG models (only 50 MHz and 28 waveforms are confirmed)
  • The waveform update/capture rate in wfm/s

Why 12-bit and an encoder knob matter on the bench

These two launches share a theme: more usable precision and faster setup, at the bench class where Indian labs actually buy.

On the SPS-A, the move from coarse/fine rotary knobs to an encoder digital knob plus a colour LCD shortens the time to dial in a setpoint and reduces setting error, meaningful on a production line setting hundreds of units a shift, where 1 mV / 1 mA readback resolution and remote sensing keep the delivered voltage honest at the DUT.

On the GDS-2000HD/HG, 12-bit hardware resolution is the spec most buyers skip and the one that decides whether you can see a problem. Four thousand and ninety-six vertical levels resolve millivolt-scale ripple, distortion and low-level sensor detail that an 8-bit scope buries in its own quantization noise, directly relevant to power-electronics, EV and precision-analog work. Pairing that with an Android multi-touch UX and Web Control modernizes how a shared lab or teaching bench is driven.

Frequently asked questions

How many models are in the GW Instek SPS-A Series, and how are they rated? Five: SPS-1230A (12 V/30 A), SPS-1820A (18 V/20 A), SPS-2415A (24 V/15 A), SPS-3610A (36 V/10 A) and SPS-606A (60 V/6 A). All five share the same 360 W single-channel output, the model number encodes voltage then current.

Is the SPS-A Series programmable over USB or LAN? Not as published. GW Instek lists the SPS-A interface as Remote I/O with status signal outputs (Output ON/OFF, CV, CC, ALM, PWR ON) only. The datasheet does not state USB, RS-232 or LAN remote programming, so it should be treated as a non-programmable bench/production supply.

What is the difference between the GDS-2000HD and GDS-2000HG? Both are identical 12-bit, 4-channel oscilloscopes (250/350/500 MHz, 2.5 GS/s). The HG variants add a built-in 50 MHz Arbitrary Function/Waveform Generator with 28 waveforms and one-key anomaly copy, plus Frequency Response Analysis (Bode plots). The HD variants do not include the AFG or FRA.

What does 12-bit resolution give me over an 8-bit oscilloscope? 4096 vertical levels instead of 256, sixteen times finer vertical detail, which resolves millivolt-scale ripple, distortion and low-level analog signals that an 8-bit scope loses in its own quantization noise. It is the most consequential spec for power-integrity and precision-analog work.

What memory depth does the GDS-2000HD/HG offer? Up to 500 Mpts single-channel (250 Mpts dual-channel) on the 350 MHz and 500 MHz models, and 100 Mpts on the 250 MHz models, with a 2.5 GS/s maximum real-time sample rate across the range.

How much do the SPS-A Series and GDS-2000HD/HG cost in India? Price depends on the model and configuration, and Indian quotes are typically shown ex-GST with the applicable GST added on the invoice. As the authorized engineering partner for GW Instek in India, GSAS Micro Systems provides current INR pricing and GST-compliant quotations. Request a quote with your requirement for an accurate India price.

Can I see these instruments before buying? Yes. GSAS arranges hands-on demonstrations across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Mumbai and Delhi NCR, so you can evaluate the SPS-A under your own load and run your own signals on the GDS-2000HD/HG before committing.
