Looking to buy a SEGGER J-Link debug probe in India? This guide covers every model in the J-Link family so you can pick the best J-Link for your project, whether you are debugging a Cortex-M IoT board, tracing an automotive ECU, or building a CI/CD flash-and-test pipeline.
GSAS Micro Systems is an authorized SEGGER engineering partner in India. Every J-Link listed here is available with INR invoicing, local stock for fast dispatch, and hands-on application engineering support.

Why J-Link Is the Debug Probe Teams Choose
Every J-Link model shares the same firmware and the same tens of thousands of supported devices across Arm Cortex-M / A / R and RISC-V. With more than 500,000 J-Links shipped, SEGGER describes the line as probably the most popular debug probe for Arm cores and the de-facto standard.
What sets J-Link apart from alternatives:
- Unlimited Flash Breakpoints: unlimited number of breakpoints in flash memory on PLUS, ULTRA, PRO, PRO PoE and WiFi (the EDU Mini includes it under its education licence). BASE and BASE Compact do not include this licence; SEGGER’s paid BASE-to-PLUS upgrade enables it (along with Ozone and J-Flash).
- Tens of thousands of supported devices: widest MCU support of any debug probe. Arm Cortex-M / A / R, RISC-V, Renesas RX.
- One firmware, one driver: same GDB Server, J-Link Commander, and RTT across every model. Switch probes without reconfiguring your toolchain.
- Works with every IDE: SEGGER Embedded Studio, Keil MDK, IAR, Eclipse, VS Code, PlatformIO. No vendor lock-in.
- RTT (Real-Time Transfer) on every model, high-speed bidirectional debug communication with near-zero CPU overhead (~1 µs per line of text, ~500 bytes of ROM, no extra pin). No UART consumed.

Which J-Link Should You Buy?
Best J-Link for Individual Developers: BASE Compact
The J-Link BASE Compact is the entry point to the commercial line. At 46 x 46 x 17 mm and 20 grams, with USB 2.0 Hi-Speed over USB-C, it fits any workspace. Same firmware and same device support as every other model, at the lowest commercial price. Note that Unlimited Flash Breakpoints, J-Flash, and Ozone licences are not included on BASE models: they come with PLUS and above, or via SEGGER’s paid BASE-to-PLUS upgrade. If your firmware is under 1 MB and you work alone, start here.
Best J-Link for Professional Teams: BASE or PLUS
The J-Link BASE delivers up to 1 MB/s download over USB 2.0 Hi-Speed in the familiar standard enclosure. The standard 20-pin JTAG/SWD connector fits most evaluation boards and custom PCBs. Choose this over the smaller BASE Compact when you want the full-size enclosure on a fixed bench setup.
The J-Link PLUS is the same speed as the BASE (1 MB/s download, 15 MHz interface). What you are buying is the included licence bundle: J-Flash and J-Flash SPI preinstalled on the probe, Unlimited Flash Breakpoints, Ozone, monitor-mode debugging, and RDI, plus 12 months of SEGGER Basic Support. If you need instruction (ETM) streaming trace, hardware code coverage, or MC/DC coverage for safety certification, step up to J-Trace PRO, those capabilities are not available on J-Link PLUS.
Best J-Link for Maximum Speed: ULTRA
The J-Link ULTRA delivers the family’s top download speed of 4 MB/s over USB-C, in a 2026-redesigned 73 x 46 x 19 mm, 40 gram housing with a footprint smaller than a credit card. Teams flashing multi-megabyte firmware images dozens of times per day save hours of cumulative wait time. SWO at 100 MHz supports high-bandwidth trace, and a single 20-pin JTAG/SWD connector covers debug duties. Ultra also adds integrated power measurement (200 kHz sampling, 50 µA resolution) on the target’s VTref, useful when characterising sleep currents on a battery-powered design.

Best J-Link for CI/CD and Shared Labs: PRO or PRO PoE
The J-Link PRO adds Ethernet (100 Mbit/s) alongside USB 2.0 Hi-Speed. Note: the PRO is USB 2.0, not USB 3.0, that’s the J-Trace PRO. The PRO’s value is the network port, not USB throughput. Share a probe across your team over the LAN, connect it to CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) for automated flash-and-test on physical hardware. For custom test-framework integration it pairs with the separately licensed J-Link SDK.

The J-Link PRO PoE adds IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (Type 1, Class 3), one cable for power + data. This is the model for automated test racks where cable count affects reliability. 4 MB/s download speed, and when powered over PoE it can supply the target with up to 5.25 V / 1000 mA via a dedicated USB-A power port.

Best J-Link for Wireless Debug: WiFi
The J-Link WiFi connects over 802.11 b/g/n (2.4 GHz) at up to 1 MB/s download over the wireless link. It is USB-powered (max 220 mA at 5 V), the WiFi link removes the host data cable, not the power cable. Setup is a one-time SetWifi SSID and SetWifi Pass command pair in J-Link Commander over USB. Debug targets inside environmental chambers, sealed enclosures, or on moving platforms without a long data cable to the host. USB Hi-Speed fallback for maximum speed when wired.
Best J-Link for Students: EDU Mini (read the licence first)
The J-Link EDU Mini is a bare-board design with a 9-pin 0.05 inch Samtec FTSH connector. Same core debug capability as every J-Link, in the most accessible form factor.
The legal landmine every Indian buyer should know about. SEGGER’s licence text for the J-Link EDU Mini is strict, and unfamiliar to most procurement teams. SEGGER’s wording: “You may use the J-Link EDU Mini for non-profit educational purposes only.” It explicitly prohibits using the EDU Mini or its J-Link software “directly or indirectly for a profit organization, business purpose, or other commercial undertaking”, “directly or indirectly in any commercial environment (e.g. an office)”, “to develop, debug, program, or manufacture a commercial product (or parts thereof)”, or “to earn money or reasonably anticipate financial gain.” SEGGER’s own text adds: “A student using the J-Link EDU Mini directly or indirectly within a business or other profit organization (e.g. a company) is considered to be in violation of this agreement.”
In practical terms for India: if your engineering intern at a Bengaluru startup, your contractor in Pune, or your weekend-side-project that you intend to monetise is using an EDU Mini, you are out of licence. EDU Mini is correct for IISc / IITs / CSIR labs, university coursework, and pure-hobby bring-up. Once the work has any commercial intent, step up to BASE or BASE Compact.
EDU Mini also has reduced specs: 200 KB/s download, JTAG max 4 MHz, SWO max 4 MHz, target voltage 1.8 V and 3.3 V.
