Beyond Oscilloscopes: Pico’s Data Logging Range
Pico Technology is known primarily for PicoScope oscilloscopes, but the company also produces a comprehensive range of USB data loggers designed for precision measurement and long-duration monitoring. Where an oscilloscope captures fast signals over short time windows, a data logger records slow-changing parameters, temperature, voltage, current, humidity, over hours, days, or weeks.
For Indian engineering teams working on environmental monitoring, process validation, quality assurance, and R&D characterization, PicoLog data loggers offer a practical combination of accuracy, ease of use, and cost.
The PicoLog Range
PicoLog 1000: Multi-Channel Voltage Logger
The PicoLog 1000 is a general-purpose voltage data logger with configurable input channels. It connects via USB and provides simultaneous sampling across multiple channels with programmable voltage ranges.
Use cases: Battery discharge profiling, sensor output recording, environmental monitoring with voltage-output sensors, production test data collection.
PicoLog CM3: Three-Channel Current Monitor
The PicoLog CM3 monitors AC current on up to three channels using clamp-on current transformers. No wiring modification is required, clamp the transformers around the conductors and start logging.
Use cases: Energy auditing in manufacturing facilities, motor current monitoring, load profiling for electrical systems, equipment power consumption analysis. Particularly relevant for Indian industries meeting Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) reporting requirements.
PicoLog TC-08: Eight-Channel Thermocouple Logger
The PicoLog TC-08 accepts up to 8 thermocouple inputs with cold junction compensation. It supports thermocouple types J, K, T, E, R, S, B, and N, covering temperature ranges from -270 C to +1820 C depending on thermocouple type.
Use cases: Thermal profiling of electronics enclosures, oven and furnace monitoring, HVAC system validation, reflow oven temperature mapping, cold chain monitoring for pharmaceutical and food logistics.
PicoLog PT-104: Platinum Resistance Thermometer Logger
The PicoLog PT-104 is a high-accuracy temperature data logger designed for PT100 and PT1000 RTD sensors. It provides 0.001 C resolution and 0.015 C accuracy, laboratory-grade temperature measurement.
Use cases: Calibration lab temperature monitoring, clean room environmental validation, pharmaceutical storage compliance, metrology and standards laboratories.
PicoLog ADC-20 and ADC-24: High-Resolution Voltage Loggers
The PicoLog ADC-20/24 series provides 20-bit and 24-bit resolution voltage measurement, the highest resolution in the PicoLog range. The ADC-24 supports differential and single-ended inputs, making it suitable for direct connection to strain gauges, load cells, and bridge sensors.
Use cases: Strain measurement, pressure transducer monitoring, precision voltage reference characterization, slow-signal research measurement.
PicoLog 7 Software
All PicoLog data loggers share the PicoLog 7 software platform, which provides:
- Real-time display of all channels with configurable graphs
- Alarm triggers: set thresholds for email or on-screen alerts
- Data export to CSV for analysis in Excel, MATLAB, or Python
- Long-duration recording: the software handles days-long or weeks-long recordings with efficient file management
- Multi-logger support: connect multiple PicoLog units to a single PC for expanded channel count
The software runs on Windows and is included free with every PicoLog unit. No annual license fees.
Applications in the Indian Context
Manufacturing Process Validation
Indian manufacturers across automotive, pharmaceutical, electronics, and food processing sectors need validated process data for ISO 9001, ISO 13485, IATF 16949, and GMP compliance. PicoLog data loggers provide traceable, timestamped recordings that satisfy audit requirements.
Energy Monitoring
With industrial electricity costs in India ranging from Rs 7–12 per kWh depending on state and tariff category, energy monitoring is a direct cost-reduction tool. The PicoLog CM3 current monitor provides per-machine or per-line current logging without invasive wiring modification, clamp on, record, analyse, and identify energy waste.
Environmental Monitoring
Clean rooms, server rooms, pharmaceutical storage areas, and laboratory environments require continuous temperature and humidity monitoring. The TC-08 and PT-104 provide the accuracy and long-term stability needed for these applications.
R&D and Prototyping
For engineering teams in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and Chennai developing new products, PicoLog data loggers serve as readily available characterization tools, record battery performance, monitor thermal behaviour during environmental testing, or log sensor outputs during prototype validation.
