Saleae Logic is a USB-attached logic analyser family used for mixed-signal capture, protocol decode, and timing analysis on real hardware. Saleae (HQ South San Francisco, California; manufactured in Taiwan) ships three current Logic models for desktop protocol work: Logic 8, Logic Pro 8, and Logic Pro 16. Channel counts: 8 to 16 mixed-signal. Maximum digital sample rate: 500 MS/s on the Pro models, 100 MS/s on the entry Logic 8. Inputs are 1 MΩ to 2 MΩ high-impedance with ±25 V protection. USB 3.0 streaming captures past 10 billion samples in one session. Logic 2 software ships 23 built-in protocol analyzers plus 50+ community-shared decoders through the Logic 2 Marketplace (70+ in total).
The newer Saleae Logic MSO line extends the same hardware design to a full mixed-signal oscilloscope. Three variants: MSO 2×100, MSO 4×100, MSO 4×200. Analog bandwidth 100 MHz on the 2×100 and 4×100 at 1.0 GS/s; 200 MHz on the 4×200 at 1.6 GS/s. Standard variants ship 9-bit ADC; Pro variants ship 12-bit ADC with 1 B sample memory per channel. 8 digital channels built in, expandable to 20 via additional Saleae Digital Probe orders.
Logic 2 software is free across the Logic and Logic MSO lines. The Python Automation API drives capture, decode, export, and .sal diff from a script. The High-Level Analyser (HLA) extension framework lets you write custom application-layer decoders in Python. Saleae describes the MSO line as "This scope runs Python."

Logic 2 is the desktop software that ships with every Saleae device, Windows 10/11, macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon), and Linux x86, all native. It is free. Saleae does not charge for the software, the protocol decoders, the Automation API, the HLA framework, or the Sample Analyzer SDK. The hardware is the product.
For Indian engineering teams, three software capabilities are worth specific attention:

- High-Level Analyzers (HLAs) are Python extensions that consume the frames emitted by a low-level analyzer (e.g., I²C bytes) and emit annotated frames at the application layer (e.g., “register write 0x12 = 0xFF on sensor at address 0x68”). GSAS co-authors HLAs for application protocols, battery management state machines, medical device communication, custom CAN-FD frames, when the marketplace doesn’t already have one for your stack.

Each Logic MSO AFE is factory-calibrated across its full operational range for stable operation at a 50 °C internal temperature, maintained by variable-speed active cooling. A QR code on the bottom of every MSO unit links to its manufacturing calibration certificate: meaningful for ISO 9001 / IEC 62304 / ISO 26262 / DO-178C audit trails. Re-cal at any major testing lab is supported via Saleae’s published procedure.
